It's Christmas, and yet I don't feel very Christmassy. Hmm. Now why on earth could that be? Could it be the gazillion times I've sung carols since the beginning of December? Could it be that Googlemail has decided to fail on me and now only works by laptop (rather than mobile)? Could it be that posting this is flouting my rules of holiday revision (revise for your January science exams between three and four, you lazy cow)? Possibly. But I think it's more likely because I haven't read any nice Christmas tales.
Which is why I'm starting up EatMyBook's first ever competition -- a Christmas one!
You got a short story you want to tell the world? Is it Christmas related, and therefore irrelevant for most of the time?
Send it in!
The only conditions are that it's suitable for a 15 year old to read and that it's original. The winner gets their story posted on my blog, PLUS my unending gratitude that one of my millions of fans is actually out there and good at writing Christmas tales.
To enter, just end a tweet with the hashtag #charlieeatmyxmastale and I'll send you my email address so you can send me your story. If you don't have Twitter, post a comment below and I'll work something techy out.
Merry Christmas! Fellow seasonal writer out!
Look, I know what this blog is called, but for the love of God, DON'T go nibbling your first edition of Frankenstein, please.

It's about time I plugged the Vampire Academy series
As the title suggests, this post is all about the awesomeness that is Vampire Academy (and Bloodlines), though I can't fairly review any of them since it's been such a long time since I read the first one the first time, and I wouldn't want to write a review for something that I have found a love of due to other books in the series -- not to say that VA#1 isn't awesome -- or write a review for one of the newer ones and leave some of you awesome people out just because you're ignorant.
Just read them, and I will be your best friend forever. If you're into your paranormal-romance, but find Bella way too wimpy, then this is the series (serieses (?) including Bloodlines) for you.
Also... the Vampire Academy series has an awesome, happy ending -- but not too happy or cheesy or out of the realm of believability for those of you sick of Twilight.
This whole series gets five stars.
VA fan out!

Hello again!
Okay, so, awkward. I'm sorry, blog. Eat My Book enthusiasts. I am truly sorry it's been however long it's been, but, to be honest, I was contemplating ending our relationship. I mean, it's all about the sex anyway right?
Okay, now I've weirded you out enough...
You like to read. Do you like to write? You better. I've got the website for you (but you know, I don't do very well with technology, so--) just search nanowrimo ywp. Try and write a novel in a month! I'm panicking already!
Scared writer out and probably never coming back! Heeeelllppp!

Death Bringer (Skulduggery Pleasant) by Derek Landy
The blurb doesn't do this one justice, so I'll just make my own up : 'Lord Vile is still on the loose. Melancholia is proclaimed the Death Bringer. Madness ensues as Skulduggery and Valkyrie try to sort everything out. Nothing is as it seems.'

Review: Forgotten by Cat Patrick
Kindle store blurb: 'Here's the thing about me: I can see the future in flashes, like memoriries. But my past is a blank. I remember what I'll wear tomorrow, and an arguement that won't happen until this afternoon. But I don't know what I ate for dinner last night. I get by with the help of notes, my mom and my best friend Jamie, and the system works...until now. Everything's falling apart. Jamie's going off the rails. My mom is lying to me. And I can't see the boy I adore in my future. But today, I love him. And I never want to forget how much...' (If that's copyright infringement, it totally wasn't meant)

Review: Airel by Chris White and Aaron Patterson
Kindle blurb: 'All Airel ever wanted was to be normal, to disappear into the crowd. Bit bloodlines can produce surprises, like an incredible ability to heal. Then there's Michael Alexander, the new guy in school, who is impossibly gorgeous... and captivated by her.' (No copyright infringement intended))

Doctor Who
Doctor Who is back for the last half of the series that began around Easter.
Now I have to be honest, I haven't be impressed with the writing since Russell T Davies left the team, what with the less than scientific 'Sci-fi'. But tonight's episode was back to the reason why I always loved the Doctor. The plot had more twists and turns than Amy and Rory's mad car journey at the beginning, making the whole episode hilarious! The rest of my family couldn't keep up with the way the story turned back on itself, but I don't know why -- maybe they're just slow, I don't know. But guess what? The only unscientific element was the randomly floating Antibodies.
Hurray for the Doctor back at his best!
Whovian out!

First mobile and music post! (I know, post titles are getting a bit repetitive)
Reading and Leeds looks epic this year (not that the BBC have filmed Leeds, unfortunately) and the best band in the world, My Chemical Romance, were even greater than usual (BBC 3, Reading + Leeds My Chemical Romance and Beady Eye). The atmosphere, even through the TV, was electric, and the music was raw and full of energy. And did you see Brian May? He was rocking! Don't ask me about Beady Eye, though -- Oasis was way before my time.

First review! The Game, Heather Killough-Walden
Blurb from the Kindle store: 'Victor Black, leader of the Gray Team, is tall, dark-haired, green-eyed and can shatter solid metal with no more than a thought. He is a man accustomed to getting what he wants, because, in the end, he can simply take it. And what he wants, more than anything else in the world, is Victoria Red, leader of the Red Team. However, Maxwell Blood wants her too, and as captain of the Red Team, he is in a position to get closer to her than Victor can. Blood is not all he seems -- and he is not without considerable power of his own. Their story starts with Black's dark proposal, Victoria's refusal, and Max's anger. A hard, unfair seduction follows, and wages a battle between powerful players in an endless, remorseless Game.' (No copyright infringement intended)
First Post!
Holla! This is Eat My Book. Here, I'll be talking about the books I love, hate, or couldn't care less about; I'll be talking about the amount of times I've got writer's block (that might be a lot of posts, I'm afraid); and I will be blathering on about my current fave bands -- a bit off topic, I know, but what the hell -- so now I've just gotta hope that there will soon be people out there listening.
